Christmas Begins on November 1st

Okay, I know.... there are A LOT of strong feelings about this, but in my home Christmas decorations go up, holiday music is blaring, and holiday movies begin the day after Halloween.

"You are insane!"

"Oh please, it's two months away."

"What about Thanksgiving?"

These are just a few comments I get year after year when I share my photos on social media of my kids hanging all of the ornaments in clusters at the bottom of the tree only for me to move them all when they go to bed. I just enjoyed my fall decor for two months, so why is it such a big deal to want to enjoy my holiday decor for two months?

Look, I get it. We have Thanksgiving to celebrate and I want to be clear - I am in no way trying to overshadow my favorite holiday. Yes, I said it, Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday. No pressure, no gifts... just food and family and friends. With that said, fall decor is, in my humble opinion, is inferior to Christmas decorations. You can't beat the red and green, twinkling lights, and putting up all of those years of memories in the form of ornaments on your tree. I pull out so many ornaments that bring happy tears to my eyes. There is such an emotion associated with decorating, and I love that feeling.

That feeling continues throughout the season for me. When the days are growing shorter and it's dark at 5PM, the weather is too cold to enjoy the outdoors, and we are all going a bit stir crazy, the decorations bring me joy, the music makes me sing, and the holiday feel-good movies give me the opportunity to curl up with my family on the couch and be in the moment with them. None of that sounds bad, does it?

Hey.... if decorating before Thanksgiving still makes you want to hurl then don't do it. I'm not here to tell you how to live your life! I'm here to tell you why I live mine the way I do. So, when you see my house lit up like Christmas Vacation before Thanksgiving, know that there is one happy lady inside that house living her best life!

Happy Holidays, folks!
