10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Having Kids

Writer: JackieJackie

Everyone always talks about the good, the bad and the ugly of having little tiny humans running around but no one ever really goes into detail! Here are some things I wish I would have known before having kids!

1. You think you know what tired is but you DO NOT until you have babies! Staying up all night at a college party and being tired the next day is NOT the same tired as caring for a baby all night and getting 2.5 hours of sleep!

2. Breast feeding DOES NOT come natural to all mothers. I in fact think it is a learned skill that needs to be talked about more! I struggled bad with my 1st son! From not knowing when my milk would come in, to clogged ducts and then add in an awful latch to that. It can be painful but we made it through with A LOT of tears.

3. Baby weight doesn't always come off while Breast feeding! I gained 50lbs with both of my kids and I wasn't able to lose any of that weight until I stopped Breast feeding and my hormones evened out.

4. There is no "right" time to wean. All babies are different. Some love the boob some hate it. I learned this with my 2 sons. My 1st hated it and my 2nd didn't want to stop! Nursing is an

individual decision and you shouldn't rely on anyone's made up deadline of when it should stop.

5. All babies are different and what works for one baby does not always work for all! I learned this with my 2nd son fast!

6. You will lose your hair. No one ever told me after having a baby my hair would start shedding! I am 18 months postpartum and my hair is still falling out. Damn Hormones!

7. Hello saggy boobs and stretch marks! You will wish you didn't spend so much time being so critical of your pre-baby body!

8. It could take months or even years to feel like yourself again! And when you do it's amazing!

9. No matter how great of a mom you are you will spend many hours feeling that mom guilt. Mom guilt is real. Did I feed them enough veggies? Did I play with them enough today? Did I yell too much? It doesn't stop but just know you ARE doing a good job! Are they clothed? Are they fed? Are they loved? Yes mama, you are doing great!

10. When you are having a bad day or an off day a single snotty nosed kiss from your little one can put the whole world right back on rotation.

My list really could go on and on and I still learn new things I didn't know the day before. Every day in the life of a mom is such a unique and life learning experience! Hope this can shed some light on some of you!
